In Tauranga, you are never far from the water. Whether it’s a beach or a river, there are plenty of places to swim throughout Tauranga. Here we will list some of the more popular swimming spots as well as some of the lesser known or uncommon spots that are certainly worth a dip in.

Not only is McLaren Falls Park a wonderful out of town adventure, but a place of wonder and excitement with these fantastic walking tracks.
Pori Pori is a fresh swimming hole located about 10 minutes out of Tauranga. A wonderful spot to swim during the summer months.
Pilot Bay is a habourside beach a few blocks over from Mount Maunganui Beach. Pilot Bay is a calm, beach great for picnics and kids.
Papamoa Beach has long been a holiday destination. One of the main attractions is the Papamoa beach itself. Great for swimming and surfing.
At the bottom of these cascading falls is a swimming hole. An awesome place to take a dip in during the hot summer months.
Swimming at The Strand is now better than ever. After having installed a bombing platform and tidal stairs to get your feet wet, it’s a wonderful place for a swim along the waterfront.
Kopurererua river can be accessed from multiple areas. A river that is often swam in by locals who are looking for a quick dip on a hot day.
Omanu beach sits in between Mount Maunganui and Papamoa. Has a surf life saving club allowing swimmers to safely swim between the flags.
A half hour drive from Tauranga plus a 40 minute walk through the bush leads you to this swimming hole. It sits in the Kaimai’s accessed by a track out Aongatete.
