About Tauranga City Libraries
Tauranga City Libraries operate five locations that share a single collection. The main Te Ao Mārama – Tauranga Library at 21 Devonport Road houses the heritage and research room (He Puna Wānanga) which is closed on Sundays. All branches provide free computers, internet, word processing and printing services.
Membership is quick to obtain and free for local residents. A library card allows borrowing of books, magazines, music, videos and digital items. Requests can be placed for items held at other branches and returned anywhere in the network.
Services include local history collections, newspapers for in-library use, e-books, e-audiobooks, streaming services and online learning platforms such as LinkedIn Learning. Regular events, school holiday programmes and digital drop-in sessions are offered at the branches.
The libraries support community needs with JP visits, genealogy resources, sensory spaces and low-cost broadband options for those at risk of digital exclusion. A new Library and Community Hub is scheduled to open in October 2026.
